KenWave Showcases Non-Invasive Pipeline Inspection Technology with San Diego County Water Authority

KenWave recently had the opportunity to demonstrate its Dynamic Response Imaging™ (DRI) solution alongside the San Diego County Water Authority (SDCWA) and its member agencies, showcasing how this innovative, non-invasive approach is transforming pipeline condition assessment.

Revolutionizing Pipeline Inspections

Traditional pipeline inspections often require extensive planning and lengthy shutdowns, sometimes lasting up to 10 days. For utilities tasked with maintaining uninterrupted water service, this can pose significant operational challenges. KenWave’s DRI solution eliminates these disruptions by providing high-resolution condition assessments without taking the pipe out of service—offering a game-changing solution for proactive pipeline management.

How It Works

KenWave’s patent-pending technology uses a controlled vibration generator to vibrate the pipeline. These vibrations interact with the pipe’s structure, and advanced processing techniques interpret the resulting dynamic response patterns. This allows engineers to pinpoint areas of concern—such as pipe wall distress—without intrusive excavation or service interruptions.

A New Era of Pipeline Management

By leveraging non-invasive, real-time data collection, utilities like SDCWA and its member agencies can detect pipeline issues early, avoid costly emergency repairs, and extend the lifespan of critical infrastructure. The ability to assess pipeline health without service disruptions ensures that communities continue to receive uninterrupted water supply while benefiting from more effective asset management strategies.

We extend our sincere thanks to the San Diego County Water Authority and its member agencies for their collaboration in demonstrating this cutting-edge technology. KenWave remains committed to supporting utilities with innovative solutions that simplify condition assessment, enhance decision-making, and drive long-term infrastructure resilience.
